The Barley Mow

The Barley Mow

The Barley Mow (pictured above) is reputedly haunted by the ghost of one Frederic Courmet, a French army officer shot in a duel in 1852. Although the duel took place at another location, Courmet passed away from his gunshot wound in the pub. It is said that he is occassionally seen, but witnesses are more likely to report the sound of “hideous gasping and moaning” as the mortally wounded man lay dying.
